BLS Course Questions

What is BLS?

BLS, or Basic Life Support, is the American Heart Association provider-level course for healthcare professionals. It covers high-quality CPR, AED use, ventilation, choking relief, and team dynamics for adults, children, and infants, with an AHA course completion card valid two years.

Is BLS the same as CPR?

No. CPR is a single skill; BLS, or Basic Life Support, is the American Heart Association provider course built around it, adding AED use, bag-mask ventilation, and team-based resuscitation for healthcare settings.

What’s the difference between BLS Initial and BLS Renewal?

Initial is the full provider course (4.5 hours) for first-time providers or expired AHA course completion cards. Renewal (4 hours) is for providers with a current AHA BLS course completion card. Both result in a two-year AHA course completion card.

No. A hands-on skills session with an instructor is required to receive your AHA BLS course completion card.
