What the PALS Provider Course Covers

PALS, or Pediatric Advanced Life Support, is the American Heart Association course for clinicians who assess and manage seriously ill or injured infants and children. The AHA Provider Course covers pediatric BLS, a systematic approach to assessment, and the resuscitation algorithms, and improves outcomes for pediatric patients.

PALS Course Questions

What is PALS?

PALS, or Pediatric Advanced Life Support, is the American Heart Association provider course for clinicians who care for critically ill infants and children. You take it in person with an instructor and finish with an AHA course completion card valid for two years.

 

What’s the difference between PALS Initial and PALS Renewal?

Initial is the full provider course (14 hours) for first-time providers or expired AHA course completion cards. Renewal (6 hours) is for providers with a current AHA PALS course completion card. Both result in a two-year AHA course completion card.

 

Do I need a BLS AHA course completion card before taking PALS?

A current AHA BLS course completion card is recommended, since PALS builds on high-quality BLS.
